SimVis is a software that focuses on exploratory visualization of multi-variate, time dependent, 3D data sets. By using dedicated methods such as Linking & Brushing, for example, the user is able to specifically emphasize or de-emphasize portions of the data, and use this selection to map other variables onto these data points. SimVis also offers so called Feature Definition Language, a powerful way to combine several selections.
By deploying standard 2D views, like scatterplots, histograms, parallel coordinates or time-curve views, this data dependent selection process becomes very easy and intuitive. In addition, a 3D view shows data in its natural spatial context. Of course all views are linked, a selection in any view highlights the corresponding data items or cells in al other views.
SimVis has been extensively used to analysis computational fluid dynamics data from automotive simulation, medical data, meteorological and climate data, as well as petroleum engineering data. It is a standalone desktop application.
